Penang has huge potential into being a smart city. The public was notified of a strategy named Penang2030 in response to the times changes. According to Penang2030, this plan aims to transform Penang into a family-oriented, sustainable, smart, and digitalized global city by 2030. The outline of 73 initiatives for the Penang smart city has already been planned, with 33 already implemented, 26 in the progress of implementation, and 14 more will follow. A number of projects, including the Penang Smart Parking app, Penang Intelligent Traffic and Transport System, smart bus stops, and Penang Digital Library have been successfully introduced. Apart from that, Penang was the very first state to implement face recognition technology in CCTVs.
