Penang

Penang City, also known as George Town, is a vibrant and historic city located on the northwest coast of Malaysia. The city is renowned for its unique blend of colonial and Asian architecture, which has been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Penang is also famous for its delicious street food, which draws visitors from around the world to sample dishes like char kway teow, assam laksa, and nasi kandar. Beyond its culinary offerings, Penang is home to a variety of cultural attractions, including the famous Kek Lok Si Temple and the Penang Hill Funicular Railway. With its rich history, diverse cultural influences, and stunning scenery, Penang City is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Malaysia.

The state of Penang is situated on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia's. It is also known as the "Pearl of the Orient" due to its unique blend of culture, history, and modernity. Penang's population increased from slightly under a million people in 1970 to 1.7 million people in 2022 (Penang Institute). In July 2008, UNESCO designated the capital city, George Town, as a World Heritage site. Furthermore, Penang is also well known for its well-preserved colonial architecture, street art, and diversity. Overall, Penang offers a distinctive fusion of modernity and old-world charm, making it a desirable location for tourists.

Penang has huge potential into being a smart city. The public was notified of a strategy named Penang2030 in response to the times changes. According to Penang2030, this plan aims to transform Penang into a family-oriented, sustainable, smart, and digitalized global city by 2030. The outline of 73 initiatives for the Penang smart city has already been planned, with 33 already implemented, 26 in the progress of implementation, and 14 more will follow. A number of projects, including the Penang Smart Parking app, Penang Intelligent Traffic and Transport System, smart bus stops, and Penang Digital Library have been successfully introduced. Apart from that, Penang was the very first state to implement face recognition technology in CCTVs. Like other cities across the world, Penang is an urban city that must prepare for some problems and difficulties brought on by population expansion. In fact, the smart city is going to be the perfect solution.
